At the Becoming Institute, we help nurses transition into psychotherapeutic practice with clarity, competency, and confidence. Our approach integrates evidence-based trauma recovery with intuitive ways of knowing, allowing you to support others without sacrificing your own wellbeing.
If you’re exploring the transition into psychotherapeutic nursing, this is where your journey begins. Dr. Joan Samuels-Dennis is the creator of the Becoming Method® and the RN–Psychotherapist Credentialing Pathway. Drawing on 26 years in nursing and 8 years in psychotherapy, she has designed a clear, regulator-aligned route for nurses who feel called to deeper, trauma-informed healing work.
This is your first step: Explore the pathway, assess your readiness, and discover how the RN–Psychotherapist role can expand your impact and return you to meaningful, sustainable practice.

Our quick, reflective quiz will help you see how your values, experiences, and current role align with the RN–Psychotherapist pathway. You’ll gain clarity on whether this transition is right for you now, and what support you might need to move forward with confidence.

Walk through the full 6-month RN–Psychotherapist Credentialing Program at your own pace. In this short tour, you’ll see the core courses, the 1,000-hour practicum, mentoring and supervision supports, and how we align with CNO, CNA, NPAO, CFMHN and CRPO standards.

To ensure clinical clarity and consistent outcomes, every student is trained in a defined intervention model known as the 3/7 Rule.
Using the 3/7 Rule, you’ll be trained to quickly identify and resolve the 3 core pain points driving a client’s distress, and then restructure the 7 core beliefs and thought patterns that sustain long-term healing and behavioural change.
The Becoming Method™ stands out as truly unparalleled. As a client, I cannot emphasize enough the transformative impact this approach has had on my life, work, relationships, and inner peace. Before discovering this method, I was entirely unaware of my own trauma and that of others. I lacked understanding of the spiritual dimension of mental health, and the profound effects of toxic shame, false core beliefs, and unforgiveness on my life were unknown to me. Dr. Joan possesses a rare and profound ability to create a space where you can explore the hidden causes of depression, anxiety, shame, and fear.

The learning is rich, structured, and deeply intuitive. I grew in clinical confidence, but I also grew as a human being. For the first time, I understand how to support clients in resolving the root of their pain—not just managing symptoms. Watching someone shift in real time because of skills I learned here has been extraordinary.

What sets this program apart is the way it honours both the science and the soul of healing. Dr. Joan teaches with clarity, compassion, and a depth of wisdom that transforms every session. I leave this program feeling equipped, steady, and truly ready to practice as an RN–Psychotherapist. This is the kind of education every nurse deserves.
